Festival-goers wallowed and danced in thick mud in front of a live band.

Footage shows the happy locals covered in brown sludge in Mukdahan province, Thailand, on April 7.

A water hose ensured the puddles didn't dry out as the crowd rolled around and bathed in them.

The bizarre muddy concert was part of the Buddhist Rocket Festival's celebration.

Local Thanatporn Phuphet said: ‘It's a once-a-year experience, so we take advantage of it and ensure we enjoy all the events.'

The Rocket Festival, or Boun Bang Fai, is a Buddhist celebration practised by the ethnic Lao people in northeastern Thailand bordering Laos. It highlights dance, music, and a competitive firing of homemade rockets.
