A large truck carrying gravel emptied the whole lot into a sinkhole in China that opened up underneath it as it travelled down the road.

The incident took place on Chunxiang Road, Luzhou City, in the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan, on Wednesday, May 24.

Footage shows a two-way two-lane road with cars parked on both sides, while a massive red truck was driving at normal speed.

Then, the rear of the truck sank into the ground, and all of the gravel on the vehicle was poured into the deep pit due to unexpected ground subsidence.

The driver, wearing a white short-sleeved t-shirt, climbed out of the cab and struggled to get to the ground.

The cab appeared to be more than three meters above the ground, and a massive pothole emerged on the road.

The traffic police department has put in place traffic control on this section of the road.

The cause of the accident is under further investigation.
