A record-breaking number of high school students across China take part in the country's famous "Gaokao" which is also known as College Entrance Exam.

Video filmed in Yichang City in Hubei Province on June 6, shows the senior students preparing for the upcoming exams at Gezhouba Middle School.

This year's gaokao holds special significance as it marks the first time since the authorities lifted the strict zero-COVID protocols that had compelled students to endure months of online classes.

According to the country's Ministry of Education, an astounding figure of 12.91 million students have officially registered for these crucial exams, which commenced on Wednesday (June 7).
