Chinese students seek success in college entrance exam with rituals at Newton statue
Students seek success in the college entrance exam with rituals at Newton statue on campus in southern China.
Video filmed in Nanning City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on June 6 shows a statue of Newton at a university's campus being stuck with small pieces of paper meticulously inscribing auspicious words related to the coveted "golden list," a symbol of top-tier academic achievement from students.
A notable detail emerged from the statue of Newton, where a meticulously positioned black Apple tablet computer was placed in the hand, symbolizing the revered scientist's connection to the world of academia. This real tablet computer, utilized by college entrance exam candidates, became a focal point for worship as they prayed for success and the coveted "golden list."
Imbued with fervent devotion, the students went further, offering incense and placing offerings of apples, milk, drinks, candies, and other items at the feet of these statues. This gesture was intended to invoke divine favour and secure admission into their dream universities.
They also proceeded to affix these handwritten notes onto the statues of esteemed figures such as Confucius and the Thinker that adorned their campus.
