A monitor lizard tried to enter a house to shelter from the storm.

The 5ft-long Godzilla-like creature poked its head between the gaps in the steel fence in Nonthaburi province, Thailand, on May 11.

However, its body was too wide for the space and so it had no choice but to wait for the bad weather out in the streets.

While the creature struggled to enter, resident Saranchana were left stranded in their car as the reptile lingered out front of their home.

She said: ‘I felt bad for it. Maybe its nest was flooded when the rain poured.'

The creature eventually left the area and disappeared back into the canal.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
