Golda's heartfelt desire was to receive roses from Marines in uniform, a wish that captured the attention and dedication of those who hold the Marine Corps values close to their hearts.
Months prior to Golda's momentous birthday, her daughter Betty reached out to initiate a plan to make her mother's dream come true. Betty enlisted the help of a friend, who wasted no time in contacting Sgt. Maj. Dominguez from the Portland Recruiting Station to bring this extraordinary request to life.
Understanding the significance of this wish, the Marines enthusiastically embraced the mission with utmost sincerity. Rather than settling for a single Marine with a bouquet, the friend proposed something grander. An email was sent to Sgt. Maj. Dominguez, requested the support of five Marines, each armed with 20 roses, for special delivery to PFC Golda Fabian.
The Marines who eagerly took part in this meaningful mission were Maj Krempel, SgtMaj Dominguez, Capt Teeny, Capt Hammer, and GySgt Hess. Their dedication and willingness to go the extra mile would soon bring immeasurable joy to Golda's special day.
As the Marines arrived, clad in their distinguished uniforms, with arms full of roses, Golda's anticipation grew. While she expected to receive roses from a Marine, the surprise that awaited her exceeded all expectations. The Marines not only fulfilled her wish for roses but also showered her with heartfelt messages and gestures of gratitude on June 3.
Word of Golda's milestone celebration spread, reaching the ears of SgtMaj Troy Black, the SgtMajor of the Marine Corps. Touched by her story, SgtMaj Black provided a personal birthday video exclusively for Golda, along with a special birthday message. SgtMaj Dominguez had the honor of sharing these heartfelt words during Golda's 100th birthday celebration, creating an unforgettable moment for all in attendance.
Golda's reaction to the Marines' thoughtful gestures was a testament to the impact they made. Overwhelmed with joy, she embraced the love and appreciation shown by her Marine Corps family, realizing that her wish had been fulfilled beyond her wildest dreams.
