Emergency services are continuing to rescue animals and pets left stranded by floodwater in the Kherson area after a dam in Kakhovka was breached.

Footage shared by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on June 8 shows streets completely submerged and people using rafts to navigate through the area.

Another clip shows a resident trying to pass their cat through a window to a rescue team on a raft.

Further footage shows three pigs standing in leg-deep water next to a building.

The final clip features a soaked black cat being handed to rescue officials on a raft.

Governor of Kherson Oblast Oleksandr Prokudin released a statement on Telegram claiming the water level has reached 5.61 metres and 600 square kilometres of the Kherson region is underwater.

The head of the Kherson regional military administration Oleksandr Prokudin emphasizes that the situation is extremely difficult on the left bank of the Kherson region due to flooding and Russian terror.

"The situation on the Left Bank is extremely difficult: people suffer not only from heavy water, but also from Russian terror and the unwillingness of the occupiers to help people," Prokudin emphasized in his video message.

He said that as of this morning, the average level of flooding in the region is 5 meters 61 centimeters. "600 square kilometers of Kherson Oblast were flooded, of which 32% is the right bank and 68% is the left bank," said the head of the OVA.Prokudin noted that despite constant Russian shelling, the evacuation from the flooding zone continues. "On the morning of the 6th, 1,999 people left the dangerous areas. The largest number of people were evacuated from the Korabel microdistrict - 1,495 people," he said.

The head of the military administration added that the people who are in the temporary aid stations are tired, but "provided and fed".

According to the State Emergency Service, as of 08:00, 1,995 people were evacuated from the flooded areas, including 103 children, and 334 people were rescued (including 15 children).

"According to preliminary data, a total of 20 settlements and 2,629 houses on the right bank of the Dnipro River were flooded," the report says.

As a result of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP, 600 square kilometers of the region were flooded, of which 68% is the left bank
