Thais protest over 'sham' election as military refuses to let winner become PM
Thais protested over the country's recent 'sham' election today as the military continued to refuse to allow the winner to form a government to become the next Prime Minister.
Demonstrators gathered outside the offices of the Election Commission in Bangkok, Thailand, where bureaucrats oversaw the recent national poll in which the progressive Move Forward party led by Pita Limjaroenrat won the most seats.
However, the country's quasi-democracy - in which 250 ultra-conservative military senators cast the deciding votes - means that only candidates loyal to the current establishment can be approved.
Army generals are also overseeing an attempt to disqualify the party over shares he held in a media company that had stopped broadcasting several years ago.
