Twelve-year-old boy trapped between pillar and slab of bridge in northern India, rescue operation underway

Efforts to rescue a 12-year boy were underway after he was trapped between a pillar and a slab of the Nasriganj-Daudnagar bridge in northern India's Bihar.

This incident happened at Atimi village, Nasirganj police station area of Rohtas district. The boy was found trapped by a woman who was crossing by the area, on June 7.

Visuals showed the ongoing rescue operation to save the child. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials were at work as they attempted to save the child, who was trapped between the slab and pillar number one of the bridge over the Son river.

One of the officials was seen climbing up a ladder while another used a cutter in this rescue operation. The boy has been identified as Ranjan Kumar, who reportedly went missing two days ago. Ranjan, a resident of Khiriya village reportedly climbed from the lower part of the pillar after which he fell into the gap. Efforts to save the boy by cutting out part of the bridge are underway.

Fortunately, it has been reported that the boy has not lost his consciousness and is being administered oxygen with the help of a pipe. So far, 35 oxygen cylinders have been used up as the rescue operation continues for more than 22 hours. Ranjan's father Shatrughan Prasad has said the boy is mentally unstable.
