These features have been observed during eruptions and forms due to the extreme heat according to the United States Geological Survey.
Kilauea volcano, the home of Pele, Hawaii's volcano goddess, reportedly started erupting again on Wednesday, June 7.
The alert level for Kilauea was raised to red for 'warning' as a result.
The eruption is currently confined within the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.
