A wild elephant gatecrashed a family's dinner party.

The jumbo was first spotted by the house owner's pet Siberian Husky which started barking at it in Rayong province, Thailand, on May 16.

Only seconds later, the creature walked into the property with the relatives fleeing from the table.

Footage shows the elephant peeking into the empty kitchen after the residents have left.

Resident Than Payup said: ‘We were having food over a celebration when the unexpected guest arrived.

‘We didn't think the dog was barking at the gigantic animal. It was so scary.'

While the family hid inside their home, the dog stayed outside and tried to scare the elephant away.

The creature eventually left. No one was hurt and nothing was damaged on the property.

Thailand has an estimated 2,000 Asian elephants living in the wild - down from 100,000 a century ago - and around 3,000 in captivity owned privately. In the wild they are seen wandering freely among protected forests, occasionally appearing on the roads that run through them.

Male Asian elephants, unlike African elephants, roam alone once they are over ten years old while females remain with the herd. They are most during mating season from November to January when they emerge from the jungles in search of a mate.

There is conflict when they come into contact with humans on rural roads and in villages so wildlife rangers are tasked with monitoring their movements.
