A man threw amounts of cash from a high-rise window to raise awareness about threats from criminal gangs in northern China.

Video filmed in the city of Shenyang in Liaoning Province on June 8, shows a man suspending himself outside a 15th-floor window and throwing bank notes down the building.

Onlookers were seen rushing forward to collect the scattered cash.

Local shop owners recounted the astonishing scene, revealing that the man began by showering the area with numerous one-hundred-yuan bills before moving on to fifty-yuan notes.

Surprisingly, he continued his impromptu money distribution until well past 9:00 pm, when he even flung his entire wallet towards the crowd below.

Eventually, the man was apprehended by the police and taken into custody.

Sources indicate that the man's intention behind this peculiar act was to draw attention to the threats his family and he allegedly faced from criminal syndicates.

As of June 9, the Shenyang 110 emergency hotline confirmed that police officers responded to the incident and are currently investigating the matter.
