Smoke from wildfires burning in northeastern Ontario and Quebec, Canada, saw special air quality statements issued for much of southern Ontario this past week.

Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement for the Niagara Region of Ontario warning of poor air quality. The region saw particulate matter reach more than 100 micrograms per metre cubed (µg/m³) in the air Wednesday, June 7.

Those special statements were lifted for much of southern Ontario Friday, June 9.

This aerial view over Port Colborne shows Lake Erie to the south and moves west looking toward the Township of Wainfleet as the sun starts to set Wednesday.
