Vietnamese durian exporters are looking to further tap into the Chinese market by taking advantage of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Since the RCEP came into effect, an increasing number of agricultural products from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have gained entry into the Chinese market.

China officially allowed fresh Vietnamese durian to enter the country in July 2022.

"This year's quantity is particularly large. Customers who took 10 to 20 boxes previously now take 100 to 200 boxes this year."

Customs data shows, in 2022, China imported 825,000 tonnes of durian.

Currently, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines are the main suppliers of durian to China.
