Heavy rain hit the southern half of Wales on Sunday evening, June 11.

Video shows a torrential downpour in Newtown in the county of Powys.

"This is the heavy rain after all the heat in the UK," Newsflare's filmer said. "We had thunder and a few lightning strikes in Newtown.
The plus side [is that] it watered the garden and filled our water barrel back up after weeks of it being dry."

"Scattered thunderstorms now developing in Powys and the north," tweeted Derek Brockway, a BBC Wales weatherman on Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius were recorded this weekend in Porthmadog, North Wales. Local media reported that the warm temperatures constituted Wales' first heatwave of the year.
