An injured slow loris ‘wind monkey' covered in burn wounds was rescued after it took refuge inside a garage shop.

The primate was found clinging to the top of a shelf, barely moving and looking weak in Satun province, Thailand, on June 4.

It was given a banana to eat, which it devoured in the same spot before the shop owner called the animal rescuers to help.

Footage shows the exhausted slow loris inside the shop. The skin on its limbs was exposed after its fur was burnt.

Shop owner Jiraporn Chusrinuan said: ‘Our garage is next to the road which is near a hill. When our mechanic arrived to work in the morning, he found the monkey was already inside.

‘I think it was electrocuted from a high-voltage cable but we aren't sure. We just found it inside our shop already hurt.'

The rescue volunteers checked the health of the creature before picking it off the shelf

Fortunately, the loris survived its injuries and was rushed to Saphon Wildlife Clinic, where it would recover.

Only after four days of continuous care the monkey regained most of its brown hair, although its eyes and ears were still wounded.

The wildlife rescuers will care for the creature until it becomes fit enough to return to the wild. It was named Mrs Eye by its rescuers.

Loris or 'wind monkeys' are small, nocturnal primates found in the forests of South and Southeast Asia. They are known for their large, expressive eyes, slow movements, and venomous bite.
