Shopping malls in Thailand are marking sexual pride month with their own colourful displays throughout the month.

Footage shows businesses displaying the rainbow flag of the sexuality recognition movement in the capital Bangkok on Monday June 12. The full acronym inclusive of all currently-known alternative sexual preferences is LGBTQQIP2SAA.

A number of events are taking place across Bangkok, which has been known for several decades for its thriving transgender community of Thai 'ladyboys'.

The Siam Center is hosting 'The World of Freedom and Pride 2023' event from June 1 to June 30 while the MBK Center is hosted the 'Happy Pride Month' event on June 9 featuring a catwalk style by drag queens.

According to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's calendar, various government-run activities are scheduled to take place from June 8 to June 14.

In addition, there are other notable highlights, including the 'Pride DIY Workshop' where shoppers have the opportunity to create their own t-shirts, and the 'Pride Exhibition' featuring artworks from more than 50 Thai artists.

Similar events celebrating alternative sexual lifestyles happen around the world each year in June on the anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York in 1969. The unrest was part of a struggle for equal rights for openly-gay people.
