This is the heartwarming moment an animal rescue team carried a fallen stray dog out of a well in Thailand.

Concerned residents called the officers after hearing the brown pooch crying inside the six-foot shaft hidden in the undergrowth behind homes in Trat province during a downpour on June 9.

The dog had been scavenging for food and did not see the hole obscured by the tall grass and shrubs.

Locals were worried the dog might drown if the well filled with rainwater and quickly notified the specialists asking for assistance.

The team arrived and found the animal curled up at the bottom of the well. A rescuer used a stepladder to climb down and comforted the trembling mutt.

When the dog calmed down, the officer took the canine into his arms before lifting it up to his colleagues waiting above.

The stray later ran off after being rescued.

A rescuer said: 'The dog was scared but not aggressive, so we were able to save it easily. It's fortunate the residents heard it before the rain drowned out its cries.'
