This is the heartwarming moment a hapless stray dog was rescued after it was found with a festering leg wound at a temple in Thailand.

The dog, a two-year-old male canine, was discovered by Attapol Nasomsri, 34, who informed the rescue team that he had found it at the Wat Tha Chang temple in Ang Thong province on June 9.

The brown-and-white dog's left hind leg was entangled in a tight rope that cut off blood circulation, leading to a severe infection.

Upon reaching the scene, the rescue team worked with monks to lure the animal into an enclosure at the temple. They covered its head with a cloth to keep it from snapping at them, before cutting off the blood-stained pink rope from its leg.

With its leg bone partially exposed, the stray whimpered when officers doused its injury with water. The team dabbed on some disinfectant on the wound, providing some relief for the suffering animal, which was released back on temple grounds.

Temple abbott Somchai Analayo said: 'Approximately 10 dogs have been abandoned here. It's become a burden for the monks. We don't have enough resources to properly take care of the strays.'
