An artist makes awesome metal sculptures using trash and everyday items.

Melmar Gabelo said acquiring raw materials like steel and glass for his artworks is difficult, so he began using what was available in his home in Bicol province, the Philippines.

Footage shows the scrap metal artist building an impressive motorbike using junk wires, bent spoons, and broken toy wheels on May 12.

He uses scissors, pliers, and cutters to shape the pieces and fasten them together, taking him at least eight hours to finish a masterpiece.

The contemporary artist - who also makes pieces from scrap glass like broken windows and dinnerware - said turning junk into art is ‘his way of unwinding'.

He said: ‘Scrap metal art is my pastime hobby. I started doing it a few years ago. I had the idea because raw materials were scarce.

‘Since childhood, I was always amazed by motorbike toys. Now that I can create them using scrap metal, I feel like a child again. I hope it reminds people of a happy childhood.'
