An out-of-control pickup truck crashed into a shop when its driver allegedly dozed off and stepped on the gas pedal.

CCTV footage shows the dramatic moment the speeding vehicle smashed into the small roadside store before colliding with an electricity pole in Samut Prakan, Thailand on June 11.

Authorities said the shop was closed and empty at the time, but the truck driver had to be rushed to the hospital for his injuries.

The store was partially demolished, with several cars and motorcycles also damaged in the crash.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sapas Prakanpitak from the Bang Phli District Police Station said: 'The driver is still undergoing treatment at the hospital. He told us he had fallen asleep at the wheel and mistakenly stepped on the accelerator.'

Resident Nanam, 48, who owns a coffee shop on the opposite side of the road, said she had around seven customers at her cafe when the crash occurred.

She said: 'I'm glad no one died considering how fast the truck was going. If it had crashed into my shop, the accident would have been disastrous.'

Officers said they will wait for the unnamed driver to be discharged before prosecuting him.
