Eleven vehicles submerged in floods after water main bursts in Birmingham, England closing major road near M6 Motorway

A major city road has been submerged after a large water main ruptured flooding several vehicles.

The incident happened on Lichfield Road which runs close to Birmingham's Spaghetti Junction (J6, M6 Motorway) on Thursday 14 June 2023.

Flood water also ran down Aston Hall Road flooding 6 vehicles and 5 vehicles were stranded on Lichfield Road.

West Midlands Fire Service closed several roads causing early morning rush hour chaos.

West Midlands Fire Service said in a statement: 'Extensive flooding is this morning (Wed 14 June) affecting the Lichfield Road area of Aston in Birmingham, following the burst of a water main.

'Lichfield Road is closed heading into and out of the city. Cuckoo Road and Aston Hall Road are also affected. Please avoid the area.

'One fire crew and police are managing the scene, while engineers from Severn Trent work to repair the burst.

'We have rescued three people from stranded vehicles. Please do not enter flood water. 'Several businesses in the area are currently inaccessible.'
