A Turkish scholar has said that the Global Development Initiative (GDI) proposed by China provides a guideline for the post-pandemic world.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): SELCUK COLAKOGLU, Director of Ankara-based Turkish Center for Asia-Pacific Studies
"Before the pandemic, there was (already) a slowdown in global development in general, and the pandemic accelerated this global economic slowdown. And national economies have suffered more because of the pandemic measures, (with) increasingly high inflation and challenges for unemployment and others.
This (the Global Development Initiative) is a reflection of China's responsibility to pay attention to global growth in general and also will be a guideline for the global development in the next stage in the post-pandemic world."
Colakoglu added that the initiative is also conducive to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): SELCUK COLAKOGLU, Director of Ankara-based Turkish Center for Asia-Pacific Studies
"The Global Development Initiative is more of a concrete roadmap and outline for how to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals within the framework of the UN documents.
In that regard, China is putting a more specific agenda for its contribution to (achieving) the Sustainable Development Goals."
