A mother mandarin duck was seen leading a group of her ducklings through the streets in northern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Harbin in Heilongjiang Province on June 12.

Upon receiving the report, local law enforcement from the Shangzhi Police Station arrived at the scene, contacting volunteers from the Wildlife Protection Association for professional assistance.

It was confirmed that the wandering party consisted of a wild female mandarin duck and her brood of 13 ducklings.

The volunteers deduced that the ducks' nest was likely nearby or the newly hatched ducklings had "left the nest" but there was a lack of suitable water bodies in the vicinity of their home. So the mother duck had been compelled to guide her offspring around, in search of a water habitat.

In order to prevent the ducks from being startled and consequently endangered during the rescue process, Wildlife Protection Association volunteer, Che Chunhu, began the operation by gently removing his own jacket and slowly approaching the mother duck to get her inside.

Seeing their mother being attended to, the ducklings obediently followed. Che Chunhu managed to guide the little ones into a cardboard box, carefully ensnaring the mother duck with his sleeve to mitigate any distress.

Following the successful collection, Che Chunhu transported the duck family to Zhaolin Park.

"I'm grateful for the rescue by the enthusiastic locals and police. The immediate report upon spotting the ducks, the constant on-site monitoring, and the wait for professional handling are all praiseworthy," Che Chunhu said.

From receiving the rescue call to successfully rescuing the ducks, it only took 20 minutes, marking an exceptionally smooth rescue operation.

Meanwhile, Lu Weixiao, the deputy director of Zhaolin Park, had prepared to welcome the duck family. He established a temporary resting place for the ducklings and cordoned off a protection zone on the water surface of the park.

Currently, the mother duck and her 13 ducklings have been temporarily placed in the park. The team will closely observe them for a few days until they completely adapt to the new environment. Once they have settled in, they will have found a new home in the park, ensuring the healthy growth of the ducklings.
