Wild monitor lizard rampages into shop before bumping head on the glass door
A wild monitor lizard rampaged into a shop before bumping its head on the glass door.
The reptile wandered out of a canal and crossed the street to enter the property in Khon Kaen province, Thailand on May 19.
CCTV footage shows the creature entering through the opened gate and trying to dash inside the store amid frantic workers and customers.
However, it hit the transparent door instead and backed away before turning to panicked customers in the garage.
Shop owner Supanut said: ‘We were having a regular day until the lizard made it memorable. We didn't know what to do when we saw it.'
The creature ran to the back of the property and disappeared behind the plants.
But when Supanut checked on it, the animal was gone. He said it might have escaped into the road.
Supanut added: ‘Our unexpected guest was gone after that. I don't know when it will return.'
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
