In light of the highly intense cyclonic storm Biparjoy, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a red alert for the Saurashtra, Dwarka, and Kutch coasts in Gujarat. The cyclone is predicted to make landfall on June 15 between Mandvi and Karachi.

A warning about the destructive impact expected from cyclone 'Biporjoy' along the coastal regions of Gujarat was also issued. Individuals were urged to take necessary precautions.

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that cyclone ‘Biporjoy’ will create havoc in coastal areas of Gujarat. It advised people to take appropriate measures as the landfall of the cyclone is scheduled on June 15 between Mandvi and Karachi. The cyclonic storm is expected to cause massive damage today and a heavy rainfall warning has been sounded for several states. The Cyclone’s intensity will damage even pucca houses, and overhead power transmission, uproot big trees, and inundate low-lying areas.

The cyclone is expected to move nearly north-northeastwards and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by Thursday evening as a very severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 km per hour gusting to 150 km per hour. As cyclone Biparjoy barrels towards the Kutch coast in Gujarat, the government said they have so far evacuated nearly 37,800 people living near the sea in eight districts of the state. It is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain in north Gujarat between June 15-17.
