The recurring occurrence of foamy waters in the South Pennar River, which converges into the Kelavarapalli dam in Krishnagiri, India's state of Tamil Nadu, has unfortunately become a familiar sight during heavy rainfall. The primary culprit responsible for the river's alarming pollution levels is believed to be the discharge of effluents from industries located in the neighboring state of Karnataka.

Regrettably, despite the prolonged suffering endured by the local communities, a viable solution to this pressing issue remains elusive. The problem extends beyond the rainy season, as industrial effluents from Bangalore continue to find their way into the river throughout the year. A prominent Tamil Nadu politician has earnestly appealed to the Karnataka government to take decisive action by establishing Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and ensuring that only treated water enters the river.

The river's condition remains highly toxic, rendering it inhospitable to aquatic life, although it undergoes a natural purification process as it flows downstream. However, the sight of the foamy water, resembling a blanket of snow, may momentarily please the eye but serves as a stark reminder of the detrimental impact on the environment.
