A sleeping cat fled as a huge water container suddenly exploded spilling liquid across a family's garden.

The feline Mae Srinual felt the object trembling while she was having a peaceful afternoon nap in Udon Thani province, Thailand on May 25.

Footage shows the moggy looking back at the massive 40-litre earthenware before it cracked and a loud crashing sound was heard.

The swift cat then dashed away from the gushing water as pieces of broken jar flowed across the yard.

House owner Nopparat Khuntha said: ‘We had the jar for a very long time. It had been on that spot in the garden for years. We didn't know that it was already fragile.'

The cat was unhurt but the jar was shattered and the broke some of the pots and plates being kept at a nearby kitchen rack which was later cleaned up.

Nopparat added: ‘I'm just relieved that my cat was safe and no one was washing the dishes when it broke.'
