Pet cats crowded inside a refrigerator to keep cool on a hot afternoon with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius.

Footage shows the dozens of assorted coloured felines racing to jump inside the appliance in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 24.

The furry creatures squeezed themselves into tiny spaces while the bigger, older cats who could not fit inside were left standing outside, contented with the cold breeze that blew out of the machine.

While it could only fit six cats, the moggies took turns sitting inside. Pet owner Janejira said they have an electric fan at home but the cats want it to be colder.

She said: ‘I gave them a few minutes each because it was especially hot that day. It felt burning outside. We stayed at home all day just trying to keep cool.'
