This is a video story about civil militia - Village Defence Committees working in Jammu and Kashmir to fight against terrorism.
Script
Village Defence Committees (VDCs) are a form of civil militia in Jammu and Kashmir in which identified civilians in a village having good credentials, background have been provided with weapons to fight against terrorism.
These VDCs have played a vital role in fight against terrorism and they do patrolling in village as a form of self security and also patrol alongwith forces in vulnerable areas and act during anti terror operations.
The Village Defence Committees have been further strengthened in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Rajouri and Poonch districts after January 1 Dhangri terror attack and several other terror incidents that have taken place in these two districts in last one and half year.
Under efforts to strengthen VDCs, more weapons have been issued to them while some Ex-servicemen have been provided with SLR (Self Loading Rifles) as compared to .303 single bullet firing rifle as issued to a normal VDC man.
Besides, forces regularly hold firing, weapon handling and cleaning camps for VDC members in the region to augment their weapon handling, firing skills.
Under this initiative, Jammu and Kashmir police in Rajouri district organised a special weapon handling, cleaning and firing practice camp for VDC members.
This camp was held at Dhangri firing range in which VDC members were properly briefed by special trainers of police.
These members also aimed at Target and fired with their weapons
