STORYLINE:
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated a new multipurpose maritime terminal in Alexandria on Thursday, as part of a broader plan to develop the country's ports.
The Tahya Misr multipurpose maritime terminal, which is located at Alexandria Port, is designed to handle a wide range of cargo, including containers, general cargo, and automobiles. It has an annual capacity of 12 to 15 million tonnes of goods.
The development of the new terminal is part of Egypt's efforts to position itself as a regional and international trade and logistics hub. The country has a strategic location on the Mediterranean Sea and is well-connected to major markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
In a sideline meeting, al-Sisi said that he is confident that the new terminal will play a major role in boosting Egypt's trade and logistics sector.
The new terminal is the latest in a series of investments that Egypt has made in its ports in recent years. The government has also been working to improve the efficiency of its customs procedures and to reduce red tape.
