Fijian Ambassador to China Manasa R. Tagicakibau said he is impressed by the rapid development in southwest China's Tibet and how local people have found new ways of increasing incomes after visiting several communities in the region.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MANASA R. TAGICAKIBAU, Fijian Ambassador to China
"I have spent four years in China, but this is my first time in Tibet. What I have seen here in Tibet is actually astonishing. We visited a number of communities, and we see how they've lifted themselves from poverty to now being a prosperous community, society.
In that process, they actually develop themselves, and also develop the way they do things. One community we went to, they ventured into the tourism industry, creating their homes as homestays for visitors. Another group that we visited, they work in the industry of papermaking to create work opportunities there, and lift their life standards."

The ambassador also hailed the Chinese leadership's efforts in connecting Tibet to the outside world while protecting its environment and traditional culture.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): MANASA R. TAGICAKIBAU, Fijian Ambassador to China
"This is where leadership comes in. When you see these Tibetan communities being linked through hardened roads, and it's not only hardened roads, it's now connected with air transport from all around China to the airports here in Tibet.
That is the good visionary leadership of your leaders. They are working hard to actually connect Tibet to the outside world. And while doing that, you are also preserving traditional culture, showcasing it to the world, and also preserving your environment."
