STORYLINE:

A group of African researchers visited the southern part of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region earlier this week to learn the region's experience in combating desertification in the Taklimakan Desert.

The African researchers came to Xinjiang to attend a forum on desertification control, which was held last week.

The Taklimakan Desert, China's largest desert, has been at the forefront of sand control and desertification research by Chinese scientists for over 60 years. Practices such as planting desert shelter forests and building sand-control barriers have been successfully implemented there.

An expert from Nigeria said his country has benefited a lot from the Chinese experience.

"The Chinese technology in my country is really working. The Chinese people are wonderful people. We have learned so many things about the technology of combating desertification from the Chinese. As you can see, we are also now in China learning more new technologies to combat desertification in Nigeria and Africa in general."
