Cape Town’s Radisson Red Hotel has sponsored a blanket drive to help keep the city's homeless warm. Capetonians were encouraged to swim in the hotel’s pool to receive sponsored blankets or to donate blankets to the initiative.

One of the beneficiaries of the project is the 9Miles Project, which runs swimming, surfing, and other charitable projects in underprivileged communities.

Danielle Paulsen who swam in the icy pool water said: “We do this because we love our organisation and the people that we are involved with, especially now in the wintertime. There are people out there that, their houses are flooding because of the rains, they don’t have blankets in their homes so this is why we do it. We get cold so that they can get warm".

Actor and media personality Siv Ngesi attended the event and walked around snugly wrapped in a blanket. He said: “It’s pretty simple. People are cold. People are cold. I’m wearing a blanket as we speak and I feel comfortable. So for me, it’s people are swimming different laps and for every lap that is swum we donate blankets to the charity so it’s so incredible to see.”
