The 2023 California Watermelon Festival is taking place in Los Angeles over the weekend, featuring free watermelons, live entertainment, carnival rides and other activities for families.
During the two-day event, organizers plan to distribute over 100,000 pounds (about 45,360 kg) of watermelons to visitors as hundreds of people gather to taste watermelons and delicious food, and participate in watermelon-themed contests. The festival also features a marketplace, hosting a diverse range of art and craft exhibitors.
Glenn Harvey, a local artist who specializes in balloon twisting and decorating, told Xinhua he expected to make hundreds of balloon sculptures for visitors during the festival.
