Wild monitor lizard rampages into resident's garage and tries to escape as rescuers catch it with pole
A wild monitor lizard rampaged into a resident's garage and tried to escape as rescuers caught it with a pole.
Footage shows the agile reptile running around the front portion of the property, evading the long tool with a noose on its end in Chonburi province, Thailand, on June 3.
The creature knocked over shoe racks and tried o crawl inside the house but was blocked by the transparent glass wall.
It made a last escape attempt slipping outside the gate, but the volunteers eventually secured the lizard.
House owner Supakorn said: ‘I heard sounds outside, then saw the monitor lizard bumping on the door. I tried to scare it away, but it seemed to want to enter my home. I stayed inside while letting the professionals handle it.'
The reptile was unhurt and released back into its habitat. While it made a mess in the garage, nothing was damaged or hurt in the incident.
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
