A brand new minehunting ship is about to enter service for the Royal Navy and is called RFA Stirling Castle

A new ship designed to assist and safeguard Britain’s waters with mine-hunting operations is the Stirling Castle.

RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary) Stirling Castle is to act as an offshore forward operating base, when deploying Mine Countermeasures (MCM) at sea.

Maritime Autonomous Systems (MAS), drones and other crewless systems to find and neutralise sea mines and other potential seabed threats.

The ship and its crew will boost the Royal Navy’s mine hunting capability and offer a safer alternative to legacy systems.

This is the sixth ship to carry the name Stirling Castle and is currently undergoing maintenance work to ready her for front-line duties with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary at Portland in Dorset.
