STORYLINE:

Agriculture experts attending a symposium in China's Fuzhou have spoken highly of China's Juncao technology for helping people in developing countries shake off poverty.

The three-day symposium on Juncao industry development, which concluded on Monday, aimed to boost international cooperation on Juncao technology.

Juncao, which in Chinese literally means "mushroom" and "grass," can be used, as its name suggests, to grow edible and medicinal mushrooms, as livestock feed or as a green barrier to control soil erosion and stop desertification.

"Now I'm also a farmer. I grow a lot of mushroom. I sell it. I'm also a trainer now, so I train people how to do it. We earn a lot of money from mushroom. It has changed our life. I built a house. I bought cars through mushroom. I'm very excited. I see a big benefit to my country. I see a lot of things that will change with Juncao technology. We are developing country, a lot of poverty, a lot of things that we find really difficult. With Juncao technology, we will really alleviate these problems very quickly."

"In my country, the use of the Juncao technology will benefit them and make them have higher incomes because they will be able to grow mushroom profitably. Apart from that, they are also involved in livestock production in the rural areas. So, the use of the Juncao technology in livestock production as well will help them to also have very high-quality beef and other needs for the markets in Zimbabwe, which will then mean that they also have higher incomes in terms of improving their food and nutrition security for the farmers of my country."
