Pensioner uses mobility scooter to pull sailboat in Kent, UK

78-year-old Tim Bell has come up with the novel solution of using his mobility scooter to get his sailing dinghy to the water.

The retired-electrician found he no longer has the strength to pull his Scorpion class sailing dinghy up-and-over the substantial sea wall that surrounds Sheerness, so decided to see if he could tow it using a mobility scooter.

Footage filmed today (June 19), shows the impressive pulling-power of the vehicle as it's seen towing the sailboat up and down the steep ramps from Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club's boat compound up behind the sea wall to the beach.

The current heavily-engineered sea wall at Sheerness was erected in the 1970s due to the Thames Barrier being built in London, and risk of higher water levels further down river if the barrier is raised.

Mr Bell also has two customised mobility scooters he uses to raise funds for the Kent Surrey Sussex air ambulance charity.
