Grandma shares 'genius' tip for cleaning BBQ using veg
A grandmother has left social media users shocked after revealing how to clean your BBQ with vegetables.
Barbara Costello, 74, is a retired preschool teacher, wife, mum of four and grandmother of nine.
Over time, she has developed some savvy hacks and unique cleaning tips which she now shares with her 3.4 million followers.
In one video in particular, Barbara received over 19.1 million views as she showed her followers how to clean a BBQ with vegetables.
“I think so many of us might be a little bit intimidated by grilling, Barbara, from the US, said.
“So I like to offer some practical tips to make the process easier and hopefully, more fun!”
Within her instructions to clean a grill, she starts by advising not using wire bristle brushes, as the bristles can break off and sneak their way into your food.
She added: “They become a massive choking hazard.
“Instead, after your grill is heated, take half an onion, stick it on the end of a grilling fork and rub down those grates.
“It takes all that excess grilling gunk off.
“It'll also give your food some extra flavour!”
Barbara then advises to go over the grate again, but instead this time, with a potato.
She said: “Make sure that the grill is super hot.
“The starch in the potato will give the grill a little non-stick coating so your meat doesn't stick without using oil!”
In the clip, posted to her TikTok (@brunchwithbabs), the grandma can be seen showing the onion trick.
She then follows by also showing her special potato hack.
The video has received over 2.8 million likes as well as 6,735 comments from thankful users.
One person commented: “What!!! Amazing.”
Peyton added: “Babs is the reason I am a functioning adult.”
Someone else said: “We’d be lost without you.”
Meg wrote: “The potato always saves the meal!”
“Wonderful,” commented another fan.
“I’ve been grilling all wrong,” said Aletha.
“Thank you for this!!!” commented Greg. [sic]
Barbara added: “I use these hacks every time I grill.
“Which is a lot during the summer, I couldn't even count, I hope everyone has a wonderful summer grilling season!”
