A hungry wild sun bear joined campers for dinner in Thailand.

The large Malayan Sun Bear named Kanoon smelled food from the campsite at the Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi, and emerged from the woods to tuck into the evening supper on June 1.

Footage shows how Kanoon devoured the meal laid out on the dinner table as wary campers gave it space.

Park rangers later arrived to drive the bear back into the forest.

Nature enthusiast Atthakorn, 26, filmed the incident and said it was his third time encountering Kanoon at the park. He said: 'Kanoon is often seen by visitors in this area. I first met it here at the Ban Krang Campsite three years ago. This is our third meeting.

'In case of wild animal encounters, tourists should not attempt to hurt them and contact authorities for help instead. It's also important to keep the camp clean of food and trash, and to refrain from feeding the wild animals to preserve their natural behaviour.'

He added that despite the close encounter, he would still visit the camp as he was fond of nature and wildlife.

Sun bears are the smallest bear species in the world, and they are found in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, including Thailand.
