Media ground outside the National Portrait Gallery as Princess of Wales re-opens the museum after renovation

The Princess of Wales, Patron of the National Portrait Gallery, ceremonially reopened the NPG after a major three-year £35.5 million redevelopment on Tuesday, 20 June 2023. The art gallery will open again for the public on 22 June 2023 with spectacular programme of major exhibitions, showcasing photography, painting and drawing. These will include Yevonde: Life and Colour (22 June - 15 October), Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm (28 June - 1 October) and David Hockney: Drawing from Life (2 November 2023 - 21 January 2024), a celebrated exhibition that was previously cut short after 20 days, when the gallery was closed by the pandemic in 2020.
The Gallery is supported by Reopening Partner, Herbert Smith Freehills, longstanding partner of the National Portrait Gallery. Tickets for the Summer exhibitions are supported by Principal Partner of the new National Portrait Gallery, Bank of America.
