Old tuk-tuk driver sets up flag along road before giving it salute days before Independence Day
An old tuk-tuk driver set up a flag along the road before giving it a salute days before the Philippines Independence Day commemoration.
Footage shows the elderly tying the flag onto a lamp post on the roadside in Cavite on June 10.
But onlookers cheered for him when the patriot unexpectedly walked away, stood up straight, and showed respect to the waving flag.
His tuktuk also bore another flag on a stick and moved on his way while Rachelle Villafuerte who was on a car on the other side of the road when it happened said she was touched.
Rachelle said: ‘You don't see these patriotic acts often these days. It's very rare, and we are so lucky to have witnessed it that day.'
Filipinos celebrate Independence Day every year on June 12. In 1898, revolutionary forces declared independence against its 333-year coloniser Spain. The Philippines flag was raised, and its national anthem played for the first time.
