This is the terrifying moment a wild monitor lizard crawled outside a woman's window, searching for a way inside.

Footage shows the Godzilla-like reptile on the ledge while inspecting the wall in Pathum Thani province, Thailand, on May 31.

It then walked alongside the transparent glass, unaware that the house owner stood opposite it as it continued to probe.

Resident Pratana Kaewwan said: ‘I always see this lizard around the house. It had been trying to enter for almost a week. It's so big.'

The creature eventually left the property as its windows were closed tightly and disappeared into the bushes on the back of the house.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
