STORYLINE:

Business insiders in Europe have voiced hope for enhancing cooperation in green energy between Europe and China.

In recent years, China has been making strides in shifting from its dependence on coal to renewables for power generation.

Official figures show China's renewable energy power generation reached 2.7 trillion kWh in 2022, accounting for 31.6 percent of the country's total electricity consumption, an increase of 1.7 percentage points compared with 2021.

SOUNDBITE 1 (German): AUGUST STUETZLE, Member of the board of AgroScience Capital AG
"I think we have a lot in common in terms of producing renewable or climate-friendly energies, and we can also work together with China. And I think we both have similar backgrounds. We are also very strong in hydrogen research. China is also very strong in hydrogen research. I believe there are numerous opportunities for collaboration between Germany, Europe, and, of course, China."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Spanish): ALEXIS ROIG, Barcelona's Chief Science and Tech Envoy and CEO of SciTech DiploHub
"Europe takes green transition very seriously and the development of technology and knowledge in this sphere, and China is investing heavily in this sector. There are cooperation projects related to this but also mobility, nuclear fusion and other ways of providing us with green and unlimited energy."

Renewables are set to dominate the growth of the world's electricity supply over the next three years, according to a recent report from the International Energy Agency (IEA).

China is expected to account for more than 45 percent of the growth in renewable generation in the period 2023-2025, followed by the European Union with 15 percent.
