Locals struggled to catch a pregnant cow thrashing through the water while stranded in a canal.

The two-year-old farm animal named Boat had been grazing with her herd at a field in Ang Thong, Thailand, when she fell down the reservoir while returning to its shed on June 21.

As the 10ft slopes were too steep to climb, cow owner Maew, 74, called a rescue team for assistance.

Footage shows how the pregnant bovine violently flailed in the water, knocking down the volunteers - including Maew's brother Ting, 67, who tried to restrain her with a rope.

The team waited for Boat to tire herself out before tying a rope around her body again.

They used a tow truck to drag the animal out of the canal. When Boat was safely winched up, she stood on her feet and began to go on a rampage, but eventually calmed down.

Maew said: 'I usually allow my cows to roam freely and graze on grass in the fields. That day, as I was leading the cows back to the shed, the other cattle accidentally pushed Boat into the canal.

'She must have been quite frightened because she was pregnant. I'm glad she and her calf are safe now.'

Boat and her unborn baby were both fine following the incident.
