STORYLINE:

More than 100 transnational companies and international business associations have joined a trade promotion event in China's Yunnan Province for the China International Import Expo (CIIE).

The business leaders took part in investment matchmaking sessions and visited industrial parks to tap into the resources and meet local companies they could partner with.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): PIETRO BRAMBILLA, Chief Financial Officer of L'Oreal North Asia and China
"Yunnan is a wonderful province, and full of natural resources. We have been participating in CIIE since its inception. For us, CIIE is a call for openness and therefore, L'Oreal has always benefited from this openness and also wants to contribute with these partners in China and with its ecosystem."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): BENNY LI, President of Energy Division, Alfa Laval China
"The CIIE was beyond our expectations. After participating in the exhibition, we found that it is far more than just an exhibition. It is more like a large platform, providing a platform for customers, governments and businesses to meet, coordinate and communicate with each other."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): HERVE QIAO, Vice President of M Commerce Group Co., Ltd.
"As a foreign-funded retail enterprise, Metro also wants to know about the latest policies in various parts of China on boosting the economy, especially on increasing domestic demand and consumption, so that we can make adequate preparations for making investments in China, and could find more investment opportunities. We are also establishing connections with various cities of Yunnan, to identify locally sourced products with high cost-performance ratio, such as vegetables, mushrooms, and beef from Yunnan, and have them included in our nationwide procurement system at Metro."

The three-day event wrapped up on Wednesday. It's part of trade promotion events organized by the Ministry of Commerce.
