The West Indian community in London gathered at Piccadilly Circus to watch a specially commissioned film honouring the 1948 Windrush arrivals and subsequent generations who joined them (June 22).

This year marks the 75th anniversary, 492 people from the Carribean sailed into Essex, to help rebuild Britain's economy after WWII left the country with severe labour shortages.

Many of the migrants who also had military backgrounds, went onto work in the newly-formed NHS and as drivers and manual workers.

Four of the interviewees who told their stories in the touching film were present at the screening in the West End.
