Triaxle Rollover tears down Power, Internet and Cable Tv closing down PA 61 and 54 in Mount Carmel Township, Pennsylvania

0430 am, Mount Carmel Township Fire Departments were alerted to a reported vehicle roll over involving power lines. Police arrived and found a tri-axle on its side with power, phone and internet lines wrapped around it. After confirming the driver was out of the vehicle, units staged until utility crews arrived at the scene. The accident closed the two main roads in the area for over eight hours, while cruise cleaned up the mess and replaced the damage to the traffic light along with the power and Internet lines and telephone pole.

It was determined that that accident was caused when the driver of a Triaxle coal truck failed to lower the elevated box prior to driving away. The Triaxle elevated box then caught a traffic light and numerous electrical lines. The crash happened when the utility pole snapped due to the strain pulling the triaxle onto its side and knocked power and utilities in the area for 12 hours while crews repaired the damage. Route 61 and 54 were closed in the area of Strong while crews removed all hazards from the area.
Mount Carmel Township police confirmed it was a Fox Coal Truck of Mount Carmel driven by James Shank. The driver reported to police he was “not aware

The driver reportedly suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Aurand's Towing, of Sunbury assisted in the recovery of the truck.


In addition to knocking out power, internet, telephone and television service in the township and borough, the accident shut down the highway for approximately 8 hours. PPL and Service Electric employees were summoned to the scene to restore power, internet, television and telephone service in the area. Power in the area was restored at approximately 1:30 p.m. Internet, telephone and television service were restored by approximately 5 p.m.
