A pair of pet chihuahuas were rescued after locking themselves inside a car while playing.

The mutts named Khun Phayak and Phlapplai were running around at the back of the white Ford hatchback while waiting for their owner Nuch who was on her way to work on June 16.

Before she could start the engine, Nuch realised she had left some documents inside her house, so she ran back to grab them, accidentally leaving her car keys in the vehicle.

The playful mutts, left alone, ran around the leather seats and accidentally activated the locks. When Nuch returned, she found she was locked outside, prompting her to call a mechanic for help.

The worker used a tool to unlock the car doors and within five minutes, the chihuahuas were reunited with their owner.

Nuch said: 'I was bringing my dogs with me to work. I even placed blankets inside so they could be comfortable during the journey.

'I've learned my lesson after today. I should always make sure I have the keys with me whenever I leave the car. I'm glad both of my dogs are safe.'
